How do you prepare for your session?
The most important way to prepare for a session is to intend, from the very moment you have decided to schedule an appointment, to have clear and direct communication with that part of you that is able to provide the healing and information you need. Let’s call that part of you, your Higher Self. So you would say this affirmation:
“I have clear and direct communication with my Higher Self”.
Note the tense of this sentence. It’s in the present, not the future. It’s not “I will have”, it is “I have.”
You can then repeat this intention either silently or out loud throughout your day and most importantly, right before you go to sleep at night. Put a “post-it note” on your bathroom mirror to remind yourself. Then you can focus upon your intention as you brush your teeth and prepare for bed.
Would you like to make it easier to go into trance?
Try This Easy Self-Hypnosis Exercise
Here are some belief statements to have in place in your belief system before going into trance: “I am secure. I easily get in touch with my Higher Self, who is always ready to assist me”.
1) Take a deep satisfying breath as you raise your eyes up as high as possible, without straining.
2) As you exhale really let go and allow your eyelids to gently flutter down, closing your eyes.
3) Imagine yourself floating pleasantly on a cloud, or on a magic carpet, or just floating in space.
Imagine each breath is deepening your awareness, each breath is deepening your absorption, each breath is allowing you to move into the deepest, most empowering octave of consciousness that will strengthen your sense of inner focus. Keep using each breath to deepen your awareness into the most trusted, most powerful part of your psyche until you feel totally comfortable and relaxed.
Now, lightly bring to mind the question or questions you have that you’d like the answers to.
As you rest in the quiet of the moment, let your mind become aware of any information that is presenting itself to you.
Do not evaluate or judge it, just let it float in your mind.
Continue to let each piece of information come into your mind.
When you feel you are ready to come out of trance and consider these thoughts, begin to wake yourself up.
To become alert again, simply begin stretching and reorient back by gently opening your eyes.
Incidentally, self-hypnosis is a skill, the more you practice it, the easier it becomes.
You can bring along any information that came up in your self-hypnosis exercise, and we can discuss it in your session.
Bringing Questions to Ask
You will want to prepare a list of questions and concerns. As your facilitator I ask that you actually write this list down on paper and either email it to me a few days before, or bring it with you and hand it to me at our appointment. Please neatly hand write the list or print it out on the computer so that I might easily read your questions during the session.
It is also helpful to put these questions and concerns in order of importance to you, since we may not be able to address them all. I have had many clients bring a single question or issue of concern to the session, and some who bring dozens. It really does not matter how many you come up with, only that you put them in order of importance.
What Kinds of Questions Can I Ask?
A general rule of thumb is to ask personal questions or keep the topics related to your personal life. Here are a few examples:
- Why am I here? What is my purpose in Life?
- I am in a new love relationship. Is this person the right one for me?
- I really dislike my job and would like to quit and find a new one. Should I?
- I have a difficult relationship with my sister. Why is this so and can it be resolved?
- Many years ago I had something strange happen to me. (This could be a dream, vision, feeling, or experience?) What exactly happened, and why?
- I have a lifelong interest in (name ANY subject) can we explore this in depth?
- Am I on my right spiritual path?
- Can I meet my spirit guide or guardian angel?
- Can I improve my intuitive or psychic skills? How?
- How can I create more peace, balance, abundance in my life?
As your facilitator I have my own prepared list of “standard” questions I can ask if you are focused upon only one or two issues, so don’t worry if you have a short list.
Don’t drink alcoholic or caffeinated beverages before the session, or even, the evening before, if possible. If you are a regular morning coffee drinker, please don’t skip your coffee, but go easy and keep it to a minimum before your session.
Light exercise, such as a walk prior to your appointment, is an excellent way to prepare for a successful session. This is another good time to repeat your intention. We want your body relaxed, and your mind quiet, just observing in the background.
Try to allow half a day for your session, so you won’t be rushed. That’s about 3-4 hours. But, you are not in hypnosis all that time. We begin with a pre-talk. That may take 30 min to an hour. Then you relax and get comfortable as we begin the actual session, which can go for 60-75 min.
Afterwards, we discuss what you experienced and answer your questions. The post session discussion can take 45-60 minutes. You also need to allow for travel time.
It is generally a good idea not to schedule other appointments after your session, or plan a long drive ahead of you (unless you are in the passenger seat). Having a deep trance session is very much like participating in a very detailed and involved daydream. You need to relax afterwards to allow time to process it.
You really will feel as if you have just returned from an amazing journey. It is best to have some time to process your experience and give yourself an opportunity to fully return to your regular conscious day-to-day reality before attempting any complex mental tasks or strenuous physical activity.
